COURSE OVERVIEW
This course provides foundational knowledge and practical skills for safely slinging regular loads. It covers hazard identification, control measures, lift planning, and the proper use of lifting equipment. Successful completion is a prerequisite for advanced crane operation unit standards.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of hazards, hazard control, and lift planning.
- Demonstrate knowledge of lifting gear and working load limit (WLL) tables.
- Prepare for and sling regular loads safely.
Serving as an introductory standard, this unit also acts as a prerequisite for the following crane-related unit standards:
- Unit 3789, Sling varied regular loads and safely direct a crane during crane operations
- Unit 16617, Use a truck loader crane to lift and place regular loads
- Unit 3800, Use a radio remote or pendant-controlled gantry crane to lift and place regular loads
It is also applicable to other industry-specific crane standards.
Entry Requirements:
3 months of related work experience – Evidence can be one or more of the following:
- Verification letter from the employer
- Work logbook or record of experience signed by the manager
- Reference letter from a supervisor or Manager outlining students experience, skills and competency over a three-month period
